Rules of crossing the border with children

During the martial law on the territory of Ukraine, be sure to specify the current rules of crossing the border with children in the Border Guard Service of Ukraine!

Minor citizens of Ukraine leave the country if they have a passport of a citizen of Ukraine to travel abroad, a child's travel document, which is issued to children under the age of 18, or if they are entered in the passport of one of the parents, and accompanied by him.

The order of passing children across the border accompanied by adults:

When carrying out border control and departure from Ukraine of children-citizens of Ukraine who are under the age of 16 and who are sent across the state border on legal grounds, accompanied by legal representatives (parents, guardians) or persons authorized by them both individually and as part of organized groups, border officials check:

- passport document of the accompanying person (provided for by international agreements);
- travel document of the child;
- notarized consent of both parents (adoptive parents).

An official of the border service does not require the notarized consent of another parent who does not accompany the child, if there are originals:

- death certificates;
- court decision on deprivation of parental rights;
- court decision on recognition of the person missing;
- a court decision to declare a person incapacitated;
- certificates of the civil registration department (registry office) that information about the father is recorded at the request of the mother in accordance with part one of article 135 of the Family Code of Ukraine (when the child goes abroad accompanied by a single mother);
- a court decision on permission to travel outside Ukraine of a citizen who has not reached the age of 16, unaccompanied by the other parent.

All these documents after the completion of the inspection and the corresponding registration are subject to return to the bearer.

Other additional documents may be required by an official of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine to clarify and confirm the legality of the departure of persons (children) abroad in case of doubt about the validity and ownership of the documents provided, as well as the presence of signs of a crime.

Unaccompanied children

Unaccompanied children are considered to be passengers aged 5-6 to 12-16 years (depending on airline rules), if they are not accompanied during air transportation by a person who has reached the age of 18.

Unaccompanied children can fly on charter flights, subject to the registration of an escort service, which is provided along the entire route - at the airports of departure, transit and arrival.

Before booking flights, be sure to check the requirements of your specific airline and destination country to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for you and your child.

At the request of parents / guardians, the service can be issued for passengers aged to 17 years, if provided by the airline rules.
When ordering the service, provide the passport / travel document details and the child's citizenship.

In addition to purchasing an adult ticket, you must pay for an escort service.

Upon arrival at the destination airport, ground staff will accompany your child during all arrival procedures until handing over to welcomers. Airline employees will only be able to transfer the child to the person named in the accompanying sheet or to employees of the airline on which the child is transferred. The greeter must have an identity document with him.

If this person does not meet your child, we will be forced to send the child back to the airport of departure. You will be required to pay all associated costs.
